the Prado Museum
The Villlanova building: the most beautiful part of the decorative scheme was the large frieze over the west door giving onto the Paseo del Prado (Madrid, Spain) and which has been known since the last century as the "Velázquez" doorway, after the commemorative statue of the artist set up in front of it.
This frieze represents an allegory of Ferdinand VII as protector of the sciences, the arts and manufacturing, shown as personifications who present themselves before his throne. Behind the king, gods of antiquity (Athena, Apollo, Mercury and Neptune) seem to inspire his decisions as protector and promoter. 2003-09-12.
