The Palacio Real of Madrid
The Palacio Real de Madrid (Royal Palace of Madrid) or the Palacio de Oriente (Palace of Orient) is standing on the western part of Madrid (Spain). The building occupies a square area of 135000 meters, the same as the old Alcazar which in the Christmas of 1734 was destroyed by a fire. King Philip V ordered a new palace built on the same location. Construction spanned from 1738 to 1755, according to the designs of Juan Bautista Sachetti in cooperation with Ventura Rodríguez, Francesco Sabatini, and Scirmento. The new palace was occupied by Carlos III in 1764. The Plaza de la Armería, from you can see this building, is a vast square situated in the south of Palace. 2005-09-23.
