the Griba synagogue
The Griba synagogue (Island of Jerba, Tunisia) presumed 6th century BC (Fall of Jerusalem to Babylonians).
Legend has it that Jewish settlers first arrived on Djerba after the destruction of Jerusalem´s First Temple. Having set up their own community, they refused to return to Jerusalem when Ezra arrived to announce the temple´s reconstruction. They placed a curse on Ezra and elected to remain on the island, where a Jewish community still exists in the villages of Hara Kbira and Er Riadh. 1995-07-28.
