Pyrenees of Huesca, Spain
San Victorián Monastery
The Monastery of San Victorián, located in the skirts of the Peña Montañesa (Pyrenees of Huesca, Spain), is one of oldest in Spain (VIth century) founded by San Victorián de Asan, born in Italy; died in Spain c. 560. Saint Victorian settled for a time in France before founding Asan (now Saint Victorian). The monastery was restored by Sancho III el Mayor (XIth century). It knew a long period of great importance both in ecclesiastical and in political ways. The confiscation of Mendizabal, in 1835 was its finishing nail. Today it is a pile of ruins in a beautiful landscape. It seems that the Government of Aragon wants to recover it. 2004-08-23.
