Ascaso

Ascaso (more info)

Ascaso is a village in the municipality of Boltaña (Pyrenees of Huesca, Spain), in the province of Huesca. It belongs to the Sobrarbe region, in the autonomous community of Aragon. Ascaso is located in a small mound to 1000 m. high on the Ara River valley. Today is a quiet place, surrounded by nature, traversed by the Prime Meridian. There is, prominent on the white chalk, a beautiful sundial with a strange and unusual inscription: “Cuando me relumbre el sol acercate paso a paso, y sabras la hora que es en esto reló de Ascaso” (more or less in English: “When the sun glare, I get closer step by step, and you'll know what time it is in this Ascaso clock”). Accessed by a forest track of 4 kilometers, of which only 1 is paved ... It's hard the life for its residents in this beautiful village in the Pyrenees of Huesca in the XXI century. The inhabitants expressed their outrage as seen in the attached document. 2004-04-09.
